Totally !!! Sorry guys, just
linked back, but gotta run out quick! finished my
required reading *back on topic*
I'll have a brief report on my initial geologic
observations by tomorrow; Im sure we can rescue Elkae
from out there... didn't Veronica get here on the
ferry???
Kestryll hears the 'Mayday!' as he
finishes the restock of the eggroom supplies, and pokes
his head out to see what all the fuss is about. From the
echoes he decides it's over by the Common Room and
wanders over just as the little gnome is dragging Dr.
Thietris to the balcony. From the bits and pieces he
gets that Dr. Elkae is out in the
lake.
Great. Zandi will have my head if she
drowns out there. *sigh* Such a good client too...
Kay.
He taps his KI which issues a pop and
fizz. He calmly bashes it against the nearest wall a few
times and tries again. Static. He takes it off and drops
it on the ground. He jumps up and down on it rather
enthusiastically then picks it up and puts it back on.
He taps it again generating a high pitched squeel, crack
and finally a
beep.
Betty? .... Kieth? .... Oh,
good. Dr. Elkae fell in the caverns
lake. .... Yes, that would be the nutty one with
the doll fixation, yes... .... If you would
arrange such an extraction, sil vous
plais? .... Non. ... Yes. ... Thank
you.
Kestryll's KI goes, 'POP!' and issues a
small puff of smoke. "Needed a new one any way..."
A moment later the sounds of Bahro calling out to
each other is heard all over the cavern. Then a boat
glides into view and fades off into the distance in
search of the fallen Dr. Elkae.
Well, that's
my part done. Off on another errand then. Good
day!
Having been in and out of level 3
completely without realizing it, Ronda follows the scent
of coffee back to the front counter, laden with many
things. Some of which she remembered she needed, others
just seemed like a good idea at the time.
Seeing
Grizz, she grins and starts divesting herself of her
swag. "Hiya! I love this place! You have everything. Did
you know you have a flock of migratory cones down in one
of the basements?"

TV wanders the hood yet again, with many
things to think about. He, like the rest, are deeply
worried for Elkae. Even more destressing; what's with
the cones? Taking a second to dwell on his thoughts, TV
sits down for a rest in the egg room. All of a sudden,
he is reminded of the great easter that they had all
had:
"Hey guys, I don't see any chocolate in here.

In the meantime, on the other side of
the world, the stranger arrives at last in Alice Springs, and immediately begins
looking for transportation of some kind that will take
him to Coober Pedy.
He discovers that tours are
expensive, and don't really go where he wants to go. So
he sighs, and heads out of town on his own, hoping to
catch some sort of a
ride.

Behind the nexus stands almech discovers
a large inflateable raft.
"What could the DRC
have used this for? It doesn't look like it could get
too far on the lake." He mused. He hears a splash from
the lake and dashes out to see, dragging the inflateable
raft with him.

Meanwhile, Professor T had to act
fast. He grabbed Eddie (thank goodness someone had had
the foresight to bring the beach ball to the
Institution), ran to the nexus linking room, linked to
the nexus, and from there to Tokotah Alley. He ran to
the end of the alley and began searching through the
rubble. Ah! There it was. He pulled out the parachute
that he had roughtly bundled into a space btween the
rocks in an earlier adventure- how long ago that seemed!
He spent a frustrating few minutes laying out the
parachute on the alley and trying to fold it neatly so
that it would fit in the pack. (Hurry, Professor T!) He
put the pack on - another frustrating few minutes as he
became entangled in the straps. He linked to his Relto
and from there to Eder Kemo. Clutching Eddie, he ran to
the Bahro door and entered the cave. He linked to the
pillar room, which for some reason was full of donkeys.
Well, no time to ponder on the significance of that. He
jumped, clutching Eddie under one arm (er, front leg)
and forced himself not to panic-link back to his
Relto.
He pulled the cord. Nothing happened. He
was starting to panic when, reluctantly, the parachute
eventually streamed out and started to open. He glided
down into the lake and landed with a gentle splash. He'd
let go of the beach ball, which was bobbing up and down
nearby. He made a lunge for it and clung on, somewhat
hampered by the heavy parachute. He looked around. Now,
where's Elkae?
On the surface, RW kept hearing it.
At first faint and then more insistant, and felt a
sudden need to link back to ExP1 hood. Oh yes, he kept
hearing this.
I'll bet Theitris, you
thought I missed that. I just couldn't figure
a way to work it in with all the activities. Anyway,
back to the story.
RW couldn't figure out what
the "Psssst" sound had to do with ExP1 but he felt drawn
to come and investigate. He just felt something momentus
and of great urgency was happening. Linking in, RW could
see that everywhere there was a great deal excitement.
From the top of the cavern he could just make out a
parachute. On the lake there was a rubber raft, and
another boat loaded with Bahro and numerous other
explorers all seeming to be converging on a spot between
two islands in the center of the lake.
Explorers
were BIZZILY running about with excitement! RW spotted
Grizz and a young lady he didn't know running up the
stairs from the D'ni Internal Suppply and managed to
catch them. With both speaking rapidly, it was
difficult, but RW finally made out that Dr. Elkae had
fallen into the lake.
Having found it during an
earlier exploration but never revealing its location, RW
linked to the Ferry landing and quickly ran to the edge
of the pier. Looking down through the murky water he
spotted it. Yes, the underwater sublike conveyance like
the one on Riven that Gehn had used for spying.
And if I had an ounce
of graphics ability, I would put a link here. Link
anybody? Hint, Hint?
Anyway, RW found the
switch hidden down beside the dock and raised the little
sub like conveyance, got in and proceeded out to the
spot in the lake where the "Rescuers Down Under", down
under the earth's surface that is, were
headed.

Veronica had stood before Cordelia on
her Relto for an uncomfortable length of time. She
thought she knew what Cordelia had wanted to hear, but
she was quite mortified that Cordelia knew she had been
the one in Professor Thietris's office. Mumbling
incoherently, she apologized quickly and then linked
back to the Institution before Cordelia had a chance to
reply.
Upon arriving back in the neighborhood,
she heard the uproar by the lake and joined Grizz and
the others to see what was happening.
"I say, is
that a beach ball floating out there?" Veronica asked in
surprise.

Fortunately, this underwater
conveyance was not limited to underwater rails and had
an underwater microphone option. Switching it on, he
instantly picked up the surface activity and calculating
the various ranges and speeds and facturing in the other
thrashing sounds in the water, RW pinpointed what he
believed to be the location of the Dr.
RW
finally spotted a flailing lady in purple holding saddle
bags, a large black bag, sinking, "blub, blub, blub".
Quickly aligning the litte sub underneath her, RW
surfaced, bringing the Dr. back to the surface also. RW
flung open the hatch and reached his hand down to the
sputtering lady, still clinging to the saddle bags and a
black bag, just as the other excited explorers and
denizens of the caverns converged on the
spot.
"Ah, the famous Dr Elkae I presume!"

Grizz, standing with the others on the
hood balcony over the lake, was glad to see that
Veronica had made it back from Cordelia's Relto in one
piece, and with no welts, bruises, or other signs of
injury (not that he really thought Crodelia capable of
such indignities inflicted on another person,
but)....where was I? Oh yeah! The rescue.
The
folks on the balcony all saw the parachute come down,
the raft head out onto the lake, the Bahro boat, and
could even make out distant splashing and some kind of
commotion even under the water out there, but details
were sketchy. Someone was looking through the scope, but
was not giving any details of what could be
seen.

"Hmmm...." Veronica rudely pushes Almech
away from the telescope. "I want to see!" She peers into
the scope, completely oblivious to the outraged
expression on Almech's face. "There is some sort of ship
and I see two people standing on the deck. Oh my
goodness!" She pulls away from the scope and says in
horror, "Professor Thietris seems to be caught in some
type of current and is being swept away and I'm not
sure, but...." She checks the scope again, "Yes, he's
clinging to Eddie the beach ball for dear
life!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I'm no longer
Grizz seems to feel that Veronica's
remark is an appeal for someone to do
something.
"Don't look at me!" he says shortly.
"I swim like a rock! If I went out there there'd just be
another rescue needed!"
He looks speculatively at
Veronica, and moving in closer to her, "How well do you swim
Nica? This could be your chance to get in the good
graces of the
Prof.!"
